UPDATED OUTLOOK.......The latest ENSO report continues with overall neutral SST's (sea surface temperatures) in the Eastern Pacific-resulting in average-to below average precipitation opportunities. So as already discussed, the drought of 2011 will extend into 2013 even as periodic precipitation events continue. Past 60 days weather pattern has been dominated by unusually strong cold fronts resulting in very dry weather conditions. The severe drought impacting Southwest Texas-Permian Basin and Southeast New Mexico is creating even more severe drought conditions. Water shortages and wildfire threats will increase into the Summer months.
A continued drought suggests that water restrictions should continue. Well water use should also follow stricter use due to the rapid depletion of the aquifer.
